Considering Florida is the worst state to be a bicyclist and Orlando is the third most dangerous city in the nation to be a pedestrian, any option to avoid cars is always a good thing.

The City of Orlando released a statement today announcing an 8.25-mile "Orlando Bicycle Beltway," which will connect downtown to the Fashion Square/Colonial area and back.

"Creating a beltway involves connecting our existing trail network by filling gaps and ultimately connecting Downtown to the region’s trail system," said the statement.

The announcement also mentioned renovating Lake Lorna Doone Park, building a new gymnasium at the Rosemont Neighborhood Center, as well as adding green space at Orange Avenue and Robinson Street.

No exact timeline was offered for any of these announcements.
