Nobody actively dislikes cake, but some people are really into it. Like the people who produce the annual Americas Cake Fair – and the fans who pay to attend. This year, those fans have an easy way to get in for free, sort of.

From 2 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, the Americas Cake Fair is holding a "drive-through" food drive at downtown's Ace Cafe. A donation of 10 nonperishable, unexpired food items entitles each donor to one ticket voucher, with a limit of four vouchers (40 food items donated) per household. Participants can drive into the parking lot at Ace Cafe and volunteers will come by to exchange ticket vouchers for donations, right through the car window – or they can park, make their donations, and pop inside the Ace.

Vouchers can be redeemed at the Cake Fair registration window at the Orange County Convention Center, West Concourse, October 13-15, 2017. Vouchers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last.

The Cake Fair runs Oct. 15-18 at OCCC, and tickets are $30 in advance, $40 at the door, or $75 for a three-day pass. The fair includes events like the Sugar Arts Fashion Show, with models wearing cake costumes and edible ensembles; live cake and chocolate challenges, where international teams and individuals battle for top honors; and more than 75 hands-on classes, demonstrations, and business seminars.
