Betsy DeVos is visiting Valencia College on Friday

Posted By on Wed, Mar 22, 2017 at 8:59 PM

U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos will be visiting Valencia College this Friday to talk about its robust dual-enrollment program.

The education secretary's schedule says DeVos will be at Valencia around 9 a.m. This is the second time DeVos is passing through Central Florida. Earlier this month, DeVos visited St. Andrew Catholic School in the Pine Hills neighborhood of Orlando with President Donald Trump to promote school choice.

DeVos and Trump were met with boos from public school advocates and local residents for endorsing the Florida Tax Credit scholarship program. The program allows businesses to get tax breaks for donating money to private organizations that give low-income children scholarships to pay for tuition at private schools.

Education Week reports DeVos will be doing a roundtable with Valencia students in the dual-enrollment program, which allows high school students to take college classes as they earn their diploma. DeVos will also meet with local employers and school leaders.

The Orlando Sentinel reports DeVos will be visiting Valencia's Osceola campus, which is located at 1800 Denn John Lane in Kissimmee.
