Orange County Library System's end-of-summer events for foodies

If you weren't aware already, the Orange County Library System of locations has a pretty awesome culinary program going on, and the run-up to the end of summer is looking pretty tasty.

Event: Learn to Make Spring Rolls
Hiawassee Branch, 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4
South Trail Branch, 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17 
Chickasaw Branch, 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31

Local chef and author Ha Roda (also known as the Pho Queen) shares tips on making the perfect spring roll. Participants get to make their own at this interactive event.

Event: Black Rooster Taqueria
Orlando Public Library, Cypress Room, 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14
Enjoy a farm-to-taco demonstration featuring a twist on Latin flavor made with the highest quality ingredients, presented by husband-and-wife team John and Juliana Calloway, owners of Black Rooster Taqueria.

Event: Retro Recipes: Ambrosia Salad
Orlando Public Library, Cypress Room, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18
Take a stroll back into the '70s with a far-out Southern favorite: ambrosia salad. Library staff will re-create this retro recipe with modern ingredients.

Event: Vegetable Gardening in Central Florida
Winter Garden Branch, 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20
Join Master Gardener Dena Wild from UF/IFAS Extension Orange County office to learn the basics of growing vegetables in Central Florida.

Event: Taste of the '70s
Orlando Public Library, Cypress Room, 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29
Have a groovy time sampling tasty party food inspired by the 1970s. This nifty event will be presented by library staff.

Event: Fruits and Vegetables: Half Your Plate

Washington Park Branch, 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30
Learn the importance of eating fruits and vegetables and the benefits of including a wide variety in your diet.
