Tropical Storm Colin brings manatees to Florida woman's backyard

Posted By on Tue, Jun 7, 2016 at 12:28 PM

Tropical Storm Colin is bringing heavy rain and apparently manatees right into some Florida resident's backyards.

Nancy Smith captured a video of manatees eating grass in her yard near St. Petersburg, Florida, Sunday and Monday afternoon.

Due to the heavy rain, tide levels breached the Smith's seawall, which allowed the manatees easy access to her grass.

She posted the videos on her Instagram account writing, "OMG one of the coolest thing I've ever seen happen... right in our own backyard! Squeeeeeeeel! Because of the rain, the tide was up over the seawall about a foot. The water was moving around and I thought maybe I'd get lucky and see a manatee. I couldn't believe it! I saw TWO!! Then one pulled itself up over the seawall and started snacking away on our freshly mowed grass! I am so happy I recorded It!"

Two manatees were seen snacking on Sunday and one manatee on Monday.
