One of Orlando's best metal bands, 5 Billion Dead returns to blast faces at Haven Lounge

Posted By on Tue, Dec 1, 2015 at 10:52 AM

Back in 2004, this paper celebrated the release of the debut CD by local metallians 5 Billion Dead, and though it was an unusual CD (with a few songs and a couple of videos), it marked the end of what seemed like an interminable wait for studio material from a band that had been tearing up local stages for a couple of years. Well, 11 years later and 5BD has become something of an on-again, off-again project, re-emerging occasionally to blast faces with their unique take on melodic death metal, but – BUT! – this latest re-emergence onto local stages also brings with it the promise of new studio material from the band. (We know they're working on something because they showed a studio photo on Facebook and everything!) Now, we won't hold our breath until we actually have the CD in our hands, but we will gladly partake in what has become an all-too-rare event: a live show from one of this city's best metal bands.

5 BILLION DEAD with Chemical Warfare (Slayer Tribute), Black Divination, Dylan Mathews & the Flips 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 | Haven Lounge, 6700 Aloma Ave., Winter Park | 407-673-2712 | |  $5-$7
