Last Legislative session, fracking – aka hydraulic fracturing, a method used to extract natural gas from deep beneath the earth – was a hot topic. Sens. Darren Soto and Dwight Bullard filed a bill to ban the practice in Florida, and it died in the Senate. But in August, the duo announced that they'd bring it back in 2015.

Want to know why fracking is such a controversial issue? This event will feature speakers from both sides of the matter: David Mica of the Florida Petroleum Council and Jennifer Hecker of the Conservancy of Southwest Florida will participate in a discussion moderated by Chuck O'Neal, first vice president of the League of Women Voters of Florida. The event is happening at the Winter Park Garden Club at 6:30 p.m., 1385 S. Denning Drive, Winter Park. Email lwvocnr@aol.com for more information.
