Let the planning begin! Orlando Weekly's Bite 30 starts Monday, June 1

Posted By on Fri, May 29, 2015 at 1:13 PM

Get out your maps and double up on the Lipitor – this year's Bite 30 is upon us. And with 27 different menus to choose from, you're going to need to be very crafty in order to try them all by June 30.

If you're new to town or just to Bite 30, here's the deal: Every year Orlando Weekly sponsors a monthlong, citywide celebration of great tastes. Restaurants around town offer a special prix fixe menu designed to show off their specialties and strengths, and they price it crazy-low – two- or three-course lunches at $10 or $15; three-course dinners at $15 or $30.

The idea is to give Orlando diners a chance to experience as many new places as they can: If you've kind of been wondering about New Restaurant X but you're not sure you wanna gamble $27 on an entree (not to mention starters and dessert), this is a pretty painless way to experiment. (But we won't tell if you also take advantage of some of old favorites, too.) Follow Bite on Twitter at @OrlRestaurantWk (yes, it used to be just a week long!) to keep up with Bite 30 news all month, and Orlando food news year-round.

Menus for this year are up, and they look pretty spectacular. On my first pass through, I'm looking forward to Boca's 60-spice chicken, Kasa's drunken Kobe brisket, K's roast tri-tip with bone-marrow butter, and the mushroom polenta casserole at Artisan's Table

Even better, this year's sponsored wines (selected by each restaurant) and beer (Negra Modelo) have been joined by a liquor sponsor, so participating restaurants with a liquor license will also be pouring special Bite 30 cocktails made with Tito's Handmade Vodka.

And best of all, our Instagram contest is happening again this year. Follow Orlando Weekly on Instagram (@orlandoweekly), take a photo at a participating Bite30 restaurant, hashtag or @ the restaurant, and (most important) include the #bite30 hashtag in your photo caption. Every week we will choose a winner to receive gift cards for EVERY Bite30 restaurant. That's practically the rest of your dining out for the year, covered.
