This is why dogs are considered "man's best friend." Tuesday night, Sarasota residents, Megan and Daniel Benton were awoken by their family pup, who was doing it's designated dog duties by going completely nuts on a 7ft gator hanging out on their front porch.

According to the CNN report:

"Manatee County Sheriffs office were called and tried to deal with the gator, but after a broken pool pole, decided it was best to call animal control. Animal control arrived around 1:30 am and secured the gator, and relocated it to a less populated area.

The trapper with animal control said that it was "a female gator that was likely moving between ponds in the neighborhood to find a place to lay her eggs. She probably caught the scent of the family dogs which led her to the Benton's doorway, where she got stuck and could not turn around."
