Last week, we told you about the fact that the private owners of Constitution Green Park at the corner of South Street and Summerlin Avenue – the one with the giant old oak trees that have limbs that are so long they touch the ground – are considering selling the park to a developer who wants to build on it. When people heard about the plan, they were incensed, and now they're trying to take action to save the park and its ancient trees.

A petition has been posted to that has 3,000 signatures so far asking the owners of the park, Mabel Groves Ltd. (whose principal is listed on its corporation wiki as Phylis Caruso) to sell the park to the city and perhaps consider making it a dog park. City commissioner Patty Sheehan says she tried to negotiate with the park's owners but has thus far been unsuccessful.

On Saturday, March 21, there's a picnic and rally planned from 4 p.m. to 6 p.. at the park to draw attention to the efforts to save it.
