Foster the People plays Hard Rock Live

8 p.m. Saturday | Hard Rock Live, 6050 Universal Blvd. | 407-351-5483 | | $39.50-$58

If you weren’t living under a rock the summer of 2011, there was no way you didn’t find yourself singing along to Foster the People’s summer smash single, the Grammy-nominated “Pumped Up Kicks.” But when the Los Angeles indie pop trio formed in 2009, they were basically underdogs in an exceedingly trendy superstar scene; singer Mark Foster had found success funneling his pop sensibilities and hooks into work as a jingle writer. When their debut, Torches, dropped in 2011, major festival appearances and radio popularity negated the need for that. Now Foster the People returns with their sophomore record, Supermodel, which doesn’t stray too far from the original mix of psychedelic rock and danceable grooves of their debut, but demonstrates a more adventurous spirit. Singles like “Best Friend” and “Coming of Age” can be enjoyed sitting at your desk or cranked up at a party – we’ve been riding the office pine too long, so we’re stoked to bob along to the latter this weekend at Hard Rock. – Lea Phillips
