Looking for some sunken treasure from the Atocha, a rare baseball card, super-fancy writing utensils, gold jewelry or other expensive items? Then check out Florida’s 2014 Unclaimed Property Auction, which kicks off Friday, Aug. 8 with a public auction preview, followed by the actual auction on Saturday. More than 600,000 items will be available, valued at more than $1 million dollars.

These items come from safety-deposit boxes that have been abandoned. If the owner of a safety deposit box doesn't pay its fee, the bank drills out the lock, attempts to contact the owner and, if he or she cannot be found, turns the contents over to the Florida Department of  Financial Services, Bureau of Unclaimed Property. The proceeds from the auction go toward Florida's public education fund.

In addition to the standard jewels, coins and stamps, here are some of the more interesting things available in this year's auction:

  • Stock certificates, with a catch: they are sold for collectible value only, having no cash value as securities.
  • Lot 194 has seashells, carved animal bones, arrowheads, rocks and one peacock feather, among other things.
  • Framed children's drawings are in the same lot as an adorable kitteh plate (Lot 191, if you wanna bid).
  • A crochet Santa

Check out these photos we screengrabbed of some of the other items up for auction:
