ELECTION DAY!: Well, not really, but today is the first day of absentee ballots and voting from home

Posted on Mon, Jul 21, 2014 at 4:26 PM

Though most people might be swept up in the white-tuft-vs.-bald-hell (oh, and Nan Rich) of the gubernatorial primary lurking around the corner on Aug. 26, there are plenty of other things happening on that ballot, some of which don't smell like a primary at all. You see, because of the early-'90s winds of fate that blew all local/municipal elections into the feigned "nonpartisan" realm, your county elections – like, the final ones, not just "primaries" – also fall on Aug. 26, meaning this could be the time to speak your mind about how your county treats your rights (see all of this... and this). Well, guess what? Today is the day that the Orange County Supervisor of Elections begins disbursing absentee ballots to those who request them. And one week from today – July 28 – is the last day to get your suffrage ass down to the SOE office on Kaley and make whatever adjustments to party/address/signature/beauty mark you need to make. Our friends over at (and, well, the Democratic Party in general) are encouraging voters to use the convenience of "vote from home" absenteeism, because that shit works, especially if you have a job. And the SOE office just reminded us that absentee ballots are NOT the same as provisional ballots, so you can feel secure that whether you are mailing your ballot or dropping it off during early voting (or on election day), it will be counted with those of the regular line-standers. We just requested our absentee ballot here, and though we had a momentary hitch, it eventually went through (It's just five steps, lady. You can do it for democracy). Anyway, pull your shirt off and pray, etc. Also, pray that on Nov. 4, we can say we have a new governor and at least pretend we have a new mayor (or at least the current one held to some kind of mystical 2016 accountability). VOTE NOW!
