Norman Van Aken wants to show you something to savor

Posted By on Thu, Jun 19, 2014 at 11:19 AM

Norman Van Aken, the colorful chef and memoirist we like to think of as Florida's Anthony Bourdain, has taken over Saveur magazine's Instagram feed for the day. Saveur's #mydayinfood IG series is a cool way of letting their readers in on the daily life of star chefs and foodies. Van Aken is known as the inventor of "New World cuisine" — a celebration of the Latin and Caribbean influences on American cuisine, which he explored in his restaurants in Miami and Key West and in his five (extremely entertaining) cookbooks. Saveur has a bit of Florida cred as well — it's published by Winter Park-based Bonnier Corp. (though produced in New York). We look forward to seeing what tasty things these two Sunshine Staters post today. UPDATE: It seems Van Aken is actually in Illinois (where he was born, before he was reborn in Key West, ha) today, but he seems to be finding his usual preferred Latin cuisine there too — here's his first post:
