YOUR PISS IS SAFE FOR NOW: “The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected Florida Gov. Rick Scott's request that it review a lower court ruling that his drug testing policy for state employees was unconstitutional. The decision was a victory for labor unions and their legal advocates. The court's action leaves in place an 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that Scott's executive order making consent to suspicionless drug testing a condition of employment was unconstitutional. A judge said it violated workers' Fourth Amendment rights, though allowed for exceptions in ‘certain safety-sensitive categories of employees — for instance, employees who operate or pilot large vehicles, or law enforcement officers who carry firearms in the course of duty.’ Scott asked the U.S. Supreme Court in January to review that decision. The American Civil Liberties Union and labor unions, which challenged Scott's 2011 executive order covering some 85,000 employees, criticized the decision as futile and a waste of taxpayer money.” (via Tampa Bay Times)

DUDEBRO DRAMA! ALL PLEDGES ARE NOT ALLEGIANCES: A UCF student who contends that a fraternity kept him from joining because he's openly gay is using social media to plead his case. Sophomore George Dumont of Sebring recently posted a YouTube video in which he and a friend discuss how he was kicked out of the pledging process shortly before he was initiated into Beta Theta Pi late last fall. He also created a Tumblr page titled "Worth Fighting For" to promote his story. The University of Central Florida is investigating the complaint that Dumont, 19, a former UCF cheerleader, brought against the fraternity's local chapter in February. Leaders of the fraternity said his rejection had nothing to do with his sexual orientation. Martin Cobb, a North American spokesman for Beta Theta Pi, said it has investigated Dumont's allegations and found no evidence of wrongdoing. The group has many gay members, Cobb said. At least 7 percent of members who are undergraduate students and live in the U.S. and Canada identify themselves as bisexual or homosexual, according to a study conducted earlier this year by administrators at the fraternity's headquarters in Ohio. DRUG DEALERS ARE PEOPLE TOO!: “As ‘Carlo’ walks around New York City, his gentle manner, warm smile, and crisp button-down shirts do nothing to betray that he has some $10,000 in illegal drugs stashed in his pockets. In his 30s and from the Upper West Side, Carlo is a high-end dealer in some of New York’s purest narcotics. His current best seller is the chemical compound MDMA, popularly known as Molly. Each of the capsules he sells at $20 a pop gives a customer a four-hour euphoric high. On any given weekend, Carlo’s product is consumed by hundreds of New Yorkers. He clearly takes pride in his role sparking dance-floor romances across the city. One of his frequent clients calls him a “chemical cupid” and says Carlos’s MDMA is the most potent she’s ever experienced. With good-quality MDMA fast becoming one of the most sought-after drugs, Carlo has a prime spot in a very popular distribution pyramid. During the evenings I spent accompanying Carlo on his rounds, I learned that his customer base included people of all walks of life. Within one four-hour period, I saw Carlo cater to NYU students, lawyers, artists, bankers, and a college professor—all ordering drugs to their apartments as casually as if it were Chinese food. ‘This isn’t something I can do forever,’ Carlo told me. ‘People always get caught. Someone gets jealous, your phone gets tapped, someone snitches, or you get stupid and sell something in the wrong place.’ As we spoke, his phone vibrated constantly; he responded to each text, scheduling his evening ahead.” (via the Atlantic)

THE TRUTH COMES OUT ABOUT PERVERT DAVE: “By now you've probably heard of "Pervert Dave" Cummings, the Florida man who vaulted to posthumous fame when an obituary including his peculiar nickname hit viral velocity. But according to a new story, we didn't know the half of it—like the time he shot Wheelchair Skip six times. Tampa Bay Times staff writer (and president of the Society of Professional Obituary Writers) Andrew Meacham has published a long look at Cummings' life, and it is a barnburner, from the old man's Hepatitis C to his Harley Davidson and his fear of commercial air travel. An Air Force vet who was discharged for mental problems and wrestled with combat stress, Cummings "claimed to have been aboard three planes that were shot down in Vietnam," Meacham writes. That may help explain Cummings' propensity for violence toward amputees and females.” (via Gawker)
