State Attorney Jeff Ashton said in a press release today that he plans to release the results of his investigation of the FBI shooting of Ibragim Todashev on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. Todashev, a 27-year-old Chechen-American, was shot in May 2013 by FBI agents who were questioning him at his Orlando apartment about his acquaintance with suspected Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his alleged involvement in a 2011 mass murder in Waltham, Mass. Law enforcement officials have been remarkably tight-lipped about the shooting, saying only that Todashev, a mixed martial arts fighter, initiated a "violent confrontation" that resulted in an agent shooting him.

Recently, This American Life and Boston magazine teamed up to do an investigative story on Todashev's shooting, which questioned why the FBI has been so cagey about releasing any information to the public on the incident. Last August, State Attorney Jeff Ashton met with Todashev's family and agreed to do an investigation of his own; now, nearly seven months later, the results of that investigation are about to be released to the public.

In December, Todashev's father, Abdul-Baki Todashev, wrote a letter to President Barack Obama, accusing the FBI of torturing, beating and shooting his son. He demanded an investigation into the shooting and asked that the agents responsible be held accountable for their actions. He also released photos of his son taken at the morgue, which show that Todashev was shot multiple times, including in the top of his head. To view the photos, published by Boston magazine, follow this link.

Neither the FBI nor the U.S. Department of Justice has indicated when they intend to release to the public additional information about what happened in Todashev's apartment on the day agents shot him.

We'll report more on Tuesday, after we review Ashton's report.
