Have a more informed Oscar ballot: nominated live action and animated short films open today at Enzian

It hasn't always been this way, but lately it's become a yearly tradition to have a theatrical release of the Oscar nominated short films. ShortsHD may not have the best reputation with short film directors (the contract favors the company instead of the director), but it's still a great program they put together every year to make the nominated short categories a little more interesting.

Two of the three programs, live action and animation, open today at the Enzian.

The animation program features Lauren MacMullan's Mickey Mouse short, Get a Horse!Laurent Witz's Mr. HublotDaniel Sousa's FeralShuhei Morita's Possessions and Max Lang and Jan Lachauer's Run on the Broom. In addition to the nominated shorts, it features three extra shorts to pad out the running time, one of which is Saschka Unseld's The Blue Umbrella from Pixar, which was a surprising omission from the nominees.

The live action program features Anders Walter's Helium, Mark Gill's The Voorman ProblemXavier Legrand's Just Before Losing EverythingEsteban Crespo's That Wasn't Me and Selma Vilhunen's Do I Have to Take Care of Everything? Because of the longer run time of the live action films, I don't believe there are any extra films added.

You could spice up your Oscar party by having an informed opinion on the least seen categories and maybe gain a little bit of an edge in your ballot. Though, it could also be said that having a more informed Oscar ballot makes you more likely to lose out to the person who hasn't seen any of the damn nominated films ... ihfkjhfdhkj;fd08oih; kjhnlkjh GAHHH
