For Reels Sunday Roundup -- October 27th, 2013

News, links, etc:

-RIP Marcia Wallace, who always embiggened The Simpsons with her cromulence as Edna Krabappel. (Chicago Tribune)

-I really don't want to think about a world without Hayao Miyazaki. (Anime News Network)

-This striking, blank ad for The Book Thief in the New York Times this week is actually kind of brilliant. (Thompson on Hollywood)

-So... The Flaming Lips wrote six songs based on Ender's Game. Not for the film's upcoming release, or because anyone connected with it asked them to, but just because they're the Weirdest Fucking Band Ever. (AV Club)

-The first teaser for Isao Takahata's Princess Kaguya. The style is incredible, similar to how he did My Neighbors the Yamadas, but totally different.

-So, here is the thing about the MPAA: they're a lobby organization, not a law enforcement agency. Of course they can't keep theaters from admitting minors to a movie. (The Wrap)

-27 actors that got their start on Miami Vice. I knew some of these, like that hunky Jimmy Smits, but I had no idea about the Tuccinator. (Mental Floss)

-Are you ready to have your opinions of Brett Ratner ruffled? (THR)

-This video essay on how Ingmar Bergman wrote his films with his own dreams is well worth the 8 minutes it runs for. (No Film School)

-13.8 billion years in the making? NDT's Cosmos sure was stuck in development hell. It appears that he'll be explaining the physics of Miley Cryus's Wrecking Ball too?

-Oh, so there is a Justice League-based Wonder Woman movie coming? (IGN)

-I got drunk this weekend and watched the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with some friends. That experience makes me even more put off about this news that William Fichtner is playing a character called Eric Sachs aka The Shredder. So. What? This is basically just going to be a movie about some radioactive turtles and a white guy in a can opener suit. (THR)

-The first poster for Pixar's The Good Dinosaur. (Upcoming Pixar)

-CBS has colorized the Christmas episodes of I Love Lucy. I'm actually just kind of curious to see if they get her hair right. (AV Club)

-Dear Fuse, please let Johnny Rotten review more movies.

-I didn't feel bad for theater hopping anyway, but Regal Cinemas is showing record profits these days. (@NikkiFinke)
