For Reels Sunday Roundup -- July 14th, 2013

Just links today.

News, links, etc:

-I haven't gotten around to reading it yet, but everyone is talking about the Unified Theory of Pixar Films. (Jon Negroni)

-Gaby Hoffmann, the Chelsea Hotel's own Eloise (there was even a book). Very much enjoying the Gaby Hoffmann renaissance. Can't wait to see Crystal Fairy. (NY Times Magazine)

-Dustin Hoffman on how Tootsie made him realize what a jerk he was. (THR)

-The three studios that own Hulu (Fox, NBCU, Disney) are keeping the online streaming platform and are going to make a huge investment in it. It really needs it, especially on the movie side. So much for all of that "digital streaming will never make money" bullshit from the strike, eh? (TechCrunch)

(^^^ ingenious prank that should have swiftly led to the boyfriend's justifiable homicide)

-Is Johnny Depp the new Mike Myers? Kristy Puchko makes a good argument for. (Cinema Blend)

-Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five directoed by Guillermo del Toro and written by Charlie Kaufman? Yes please, but why couldn't they have picked Galapagos instead? Oh, the potential. (Film School Rejects)

-Sounds like Woody Allen has another good one in store for us with Blue Jasmine as he turns 77. (77! Holy shit!) (LA Times)

-Andrew Bujalski and Joe Swanberg grow up, get actors that speak clearly. (NY Times)

-Will Disney learn any lessons from the other studios? (Thompson on Hollywood)

-James Cameron started all of this 3D bullshit and now he's telling people they're doing it wrong? Jeez, James. (The Guardian)

-Universal Orlando is out of Bort nametags. A lot of kids are going to go home crying. (AV Club)

-Who was the most successful of the Howard brothers (aka Moe, Curly, Shemp, etc) anyway? (@mental_floss)

Trailers, posters, etc:

- James McAvoy in Irvine Welsh's Filth. (Moviefone)

-Idris Elba as the young Nelson Mandela in Long Walk to Freedom. We're cancelling this apartheid! (First Showing)

-How to Train Your Dragon 2. Except for keeping animators employed, I can't think of a good reason why we needed a sequel. (Cartoon Brew)

-An unsubbed teaser for Isao Takahata's The Tale of Princess Kaguya, the next Studio Ghibli film. (Animation Scoop)

-Lovelace... at least it doesn't star Lindsay Lohan, I guess? (THR)

-Speaking of Lindsay... The Canyons has maybe the worst trailer I've ever seen. It'll only be out of morbid curiosity mixed with a healthy dose of self-harm that anyone watches this film. I almost missed this since I added all iterations of Lindsay Lohan's name to the Unbaby Me filter. (THR)

-One of the great regrets of my life is never owning a Nintendo Powerglove. Now there is a documentary about it called The Power of Glove. (Wired)
