When you’re a professional photographer or a true enthusiast, you know the best way to get new equipment isn’t necessarily to order it brand-new. There’s always someone, somewhere, who has a lens you need collecting dust in a closet, and they’re probably willing to part with it for a lot less than you’d pay at even the least-expensive retail outlets. They might even be willing to let it go a little cheaper if you’ve got something to trade – say, a tripod you don’t use anymore, or that old Gary Fong you never really liked much, anyway. So, the pros and the enthusiasts look forward to events like this one, at which vendors from all around town come to sell, trade, swap and geek out over equipment with other photography types. Kiwi Camera Service owner Mike Livera – a guy you must know if you’re a photographer working in Orlando – hosts these swaps on the regular. Not only are they a great place to pick up used gear on the cheap, they’re also a great way to meet other photographers. Even if you don’t walk away with any new purchases, you should make it a point to at least walk away with some tips to get better at what you do. – Erin Sullivan
