Saturday, May 11 – The Science of Wine

7-10 p.m.

Orlando Science Center

777 E. Princeton St.

sold out

Before you can thoroughly enjoy a glass of vino, you must first appreciate the lengthy, meticulous process behind the creation of the wine. No, that delicious liquid doesn’t magically appear bottled before you – someone’s got to harvest the grapes, crush the grapes, ferment the grapes, extract the tannins, and so on and so forth. Sure, you could travel to Bordeaux, Napa or Tuscany to get a roll-up-the-sleeves experience in winemaking – or you could much more easily head to the Orlando Science Center for the Science of Wine event. Not only will you sip on more than 100 varieties of wine provided by Southern Wine & Spirits, but you can also dive into winemaking presentations and workshops with Luis Torres of the Constellation Academy of Wine. Fill up on light bites from Hawkers, SoNapa, Taverna Opa and other area eateries, and then make your way to the “Cheese and Wine: Life Beyond the Wine and Cheese Social Cocktail Party” seminar. You’ll emerge a fully formed wine-pairing expert – or something of the like, anyway. – Aimee Vitek
