Saturday, April 27 – Ongaku Overdrive Music Festival

6 p.m.

717 W. Smith St.

People who love anime don’t just fall into rabbit holes, they go rabidly spelunking to the point of no return, disappearing underground as if the Spiral King bid them there, often never fully returning to their previous interests. It’s a welcome and self-imposed sentence, though, and the culture of anime has spawned its own soundtrack for those inhabiting its clever world, leading to inventive hip-hop, J-pop and nerdcore you won’t find in a Pixar film. At Ongaku Overdrive, you can sample some of the finest talents in anime music making, some imported from Japan (like the witty Rai Kamishiro) and some cultivated domestically (like Emergency Pizza Party). You might also recognize artists featured on Cartoon Network, like Richie Branson, and Nerdapalooza favorites like Adam WarRock. If you’re interested in trying to catch ’em all (and let’s face it, we know you are), get there at 6 p.m. sharp. – Ashley Belanger
