Saturday, March 30 – Dead Animals

8 p.m.

The Falcon

819 E. Washington St., Suite 2

Maybe it’s just us, but we find taxidermy a tad creepy (and altogether morbid): the hunter who trophies his prize shot by mounting its lifeless head above the mantel, or the grieving cat lady who forever immortalizes her precious kitty atop the bedroom dresser. But in this art show at the Falcon, while the pieces might be inspired by the art(?) of taxidermy, that doesn’t necessarily mean the dozen or so featured artists actually used dead animals to create the artwork. Take, for instance, Banjo Bob’s cardboard dino heads, or the super-real paintings of Morgan Wilson, or the wood-mounted and crystal-adorned octopi of Lesley Silvia. It’s the type of art party where the artists work down to the wire to finish pieces, so you’ll have to wait until opening night to see what they come up with. But we expect a wide variety of creatures will represent this show – everything from painted cow skulls to sketched insects to amphibians in human-like poses. Note: No animals were harmed in the making of this art show. – Aimee Vitek
