$40 per team of two

We know what you’re thinking: I don’t know anything about croquet. For all you know, it’s an antiquated sport, similar to golf, that’s often associated with England’s wealthy set, or something you might have seen referenced in a Norman Rockwell painting or an Edward Gorey illustrated book. But that’s no reason not to participate in this tournament, which is also a fundraiser for Winter Park’s Park Avenue fair trade retailer Ten Thousand Villages. While we do suggest each team of two brushes up on their “buggy rides,” “tices” and “bisques” for this bit of friendly competition, all skill levels are invited, and equipment (along with food and drinks) will be provided during the games. At the end of the day (win or lose), you’ll have helped fund a learning tour for TTV’s store co-manager Jennifer Schroeder, who’ll travel to India and Bangladesh to further the nonprofit org’s fair trade mission by meeting partnering artisans and their families in the developing countries. – Aimee Vitek
