Take a walk back through Central Florida history and explore the rich culture of local town Eatonville and one of its most famous residents, author Zora Neale Hurston (Their Eyes Were Watching God), during the weeklong Zora Festival. This year’s citywide event involves educational workshops, an inaugural Black History Kick-off Salute at Orlando City Hall, open-forum community roundtables and screenings of independent films. And, of course, the three-day Outdoor Festival of the Arts returns (Feb. 1-3), complete with art displays, performances by Heather Henson’s Ibex Puppetry and an African Diaspora Pavilion, where visitors can get a glimpse of African and community traditions, and sample dishes by TV chef Marvin Woods. – Drexler B.
