For the first time in 50 years, Orange County has a new tax collector. Yesterday, former state Rep. Scott Randolph was sworn into office, replacing the dearly departed Earl K. Wood, who'd held the office since 1964. We didn't make his swearing-in ceremony, but we did attend the party later in the evening (typical). More photos below.

Randolph, who was appointed to take Wood's place in the November election after Wood died, has already announced three new initiatives he plans to implement now that he's officially in the job:

1.      The immediate institution of an office wide non-discrimination policy to ensure that no one is discriminated against in any way.

2.      An immediate and ongoing review of modernization of the overall customer experience while at any of our 8 locations.

3.      The office will immediately deepen our partnership with IDignity and wave ALL fees for their once a month ID assistance program for our homeless population.

Over the next four years, Mr. Randolph looks forward to working with the community and other political leaders to improve our community. He will continue and improve upon the decades of respect and integrity that the late Earl K. Wood brought to the office.
