If you’re anything like us, most of your forays into soundtracked communication via C30, C60, C90 (GO!) plastic cassette reels rotated around thematic bursts of overstatement (I might kill myself! You can’t leave!) or romance (We did it last night, and this is what it sounded like). Now that we’ve all graduated to digital playlists, the whole ceremony of handing over your slow-BPM heart to somebody with hair in his face doesn’t carry quite the sentimental weight it used to; your soul is easily shuffled. The folks at Urban Think! Foundation have been urbanely thinking about this conundrum and have come up with a real-life solution that doubles as a fundraiser. An arbitrarily chosen group of folks picked their favorite songs of dedication, only to have some of Orlando’s finest musicians – Thomas Wynn, Joseph Martens, Eugene Snowden and Kaleigh Baker among them – re-purpose said ditties in very Orlando ways. It’s like a mixtape happening right before your eyes! Only this time you can’t rewind. – Billy Manes
