Sunday, Oct. 28 – King Tuff

with the Intelligence, Wet Nurse

1042 N. Mills Ave.

Kyle Thomas has woven acid folk in freaky act Feathers and ripped out stoner metal with J. Mascis in Witch. But on his own as King Tuff, dude is crystallizing as a true and altogether different force unto himself. His 2008 debut LP on Teepee Records (Was Dead) was pretty digable, but this year’s self-titled follow-up for Sub Pop is a serious sonic leap forward. In fact, this mofo is one of the best records to emerge this year and a real knockout punch for Thomas’ charismatic vessel. It’s a stocked salvo of frayed rock & roll nuggets that’s splashed brightly with sunny garage, glam and psych tints. With a fun, scuzzy ease and inspired pop precision whose simple brilliance can’t be overstated, this might just be Marc Bolan reincarnated as a teenage punk. – Bao Le-Huu
