Thursday, Oct. 18 – Dia de los Muertos and Monster Factory

6-10 p.m.

CityArts Factory

29 S. Orange Ave.

The streets of downtown Orlando will inevitably fill with the usual Halloween-costumed drunkenness, but this event is sure to satisfy both the socialite and the art lover. Celebrating its third year, this annual show combines the influences of All Hallow’s Eve with the work of local artists. Dia de los Muertos (“Day of the dead” for the Spanish-impaired) and Monster Factory brings the rich heritage and visual appeal of the Mexican tradition to the City Beautiful. The street party, which marks the opening of the ghoulish-themed exhibit, features musical entertainment, dancing, food, drinks, costume contests and face painting for the kids. Halloween may be almost two weeks away, but it’s never too early for skeleton costumes and an ice-cold Corona. – Victor Ocasio
