Lately, there’s been a resurgence of tours that take place aboard boats and trains, relying on literal momentum to draw audiences. That’s cool if you’re into that sort of gimmick, but for some bands, the music is the only engine necessary to drive the show. As if diagnosed with terminal wanderlust, the world-music and electronic-dance fusion of Beats Antique can’t be pinned down to any one genre or region. This is Bonnaroo-type trippiness delivered to Orlando at the Social, offering energetic performance art driven by the band’s belly-dancing frontwoman Zoe Jakes. The club iteration of their new album, Contraption Vol. 2, will bring fans the tribal beats and jam-band meanderings their live show is famous for, supported by an eclectic range of instruments that provide a counterpoint to the electronic sampling. And just as on Contraption Vol. 1, supporting act Lynx contribute vocals on select songs. – Ashley Belanger
