Barktoberfest at Orlando Brewing today

First, some quick math: According to the ASPCA, one unsprayed female cat can have up to three litters a year. If she has 4.5 kittens per litter (OK, you can't have half a kitten, but humor us), she can produced 14 new cats that need a home in one year. If none of those kittens are fixed and go on to reproduce, the number of cats they can create increases exponentially: 203 cats in two years, 2,754 in three years, 37,193 in four years. The numbers are a bit less dramatic for dogs, since they can’t reproduce as often, but the same principal applies. So, it makes sense to spay or neuter your pets, and to make sure that all the animals being placed from shelters and rescues into new homes are spayed and neutered before they get there. But altering animals isn’t cheap, and our area needs more low-cost spay/neuter resources to help pet owners and rescuers do the right thing. Which is where today’s event comes into play. All proceeds from this Barktoberfest fundraiser will be used by the Animal Welfare Alliance of Central Florida build a low-cost spay neuter clinic. Check out the dog-related vendors, food and drink specials (with purchase of a wristband), raffles and dogs, of course, which are welcome to attend. Barktoberfest takes place from 1-7 Orlando Brewing, 1301 Atlanta Ave.. It's free to get in. Visit for more details.
