Opening in Orlando -- August 24th, 2012

The Apparition -- Sebastian Stan, Twilight’s Ashley Greene and Tom “Draco Malfoy” Felton lend their millennial cachet to first-time feature director Todd Lincoln’s attempt to scare up some Paranormal Activity of his own. This time, the pesky poltergeist bedeviling a spooked young couple is one that was set loose by a college experiment. (You knew this would happen if the damn multiculturalists had their way.)  (PG-13) [youtube q7pY71AvnlE]

Hit and Run -- Reviewed this week. (Opened Wednesday, Aug. 22; R)

[youtube 6nZlXB5okeo] Killer Joe -- Fresh from figuring out who all the LAAAAAW-breakers were in a room full of sex-starved bridesmaids -- hey, it’s not always as easy as it looks! -- Matthew McConaughey finds new territory to conquer. This time, he takes the lead role in William Friedkin’s adaptation of Tracy Letts’ darkly comic stage play about a hired assassin who turns a white-trash family’s world upside down.  The infamous local production of the play is something I remember vividly for a number of reasons, including the fact that it showed me more of a few area actors than I had ever asked to see. True to form, the film version has been flagged by the MPAA for “graphic aberrant content involving violence and sexuality.” Got that? Not just normal, garden-variety graphic content, but graphic aberrant content. Sounds like we got us some LAAAAAW-breakers in here! (NC-17) [youtube 4-i1xCVs5MY] Premium Rush -- So Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Robin the Boy Wonder. (It’s OK to say it now: Jimmy Kimmel signed off.) But did you know he’s also a bike messenger? Like, a kick-ass bike messenger who can navigate the concrete canyons of Manhattan like nobody’s business? Writer/director David Koepp tries to wring maximum thrills out of a minimum-wage scenario while an impatient nation wonders when that Nightwing movie is gonna get here. (PG-13) [youtube WcQibDNxHjI]
