It's wine, cheese and poodles at Audubon Park's Bastille Day

Saturday, July 14 – Bastille Day 6-10 p.m. Audubon Park Garden District East Winter Park Road and Corrine Drive free, $25-$35 for tasting

Last week’s July 4th celebrations might have centered on American staples like barbecued hot dogs and red-white-and-blue-hued cases of Budweiser, but this week, we commemorate the French Revolution with the finer things we’ve copped from French culture – wine, cheese, poodles wearing berets. It all goes down at Audubon Park Garden District’s Bastille Day, an annual ode to our Continental crushes, complete with live Parisian-inspired music, fencing demos and a pet costume contest and parade outside Bikes, Beans and Bordeaux. For the culinarily-inclined, there’s also the Garden Party Wine and Cheese Tasting, a new addition to the Bastille Day festivities located around the corner at Emmanuel Episcopal Church featuring local wine guru Jeremy Byrd and cheesehead Carol Overstreet. Brush up on the differences between Burgundy and Bordeaux, or Camembert and Epoisses, and you’ll finally receive the cred that red kerchief and pencil-thin ’stache deserves. – Aimee Vitek
