Faces of Ecstasy, the “O” face – pop culture’s long been privy to the voyeuristic joy of someone else’s, um, joy. But never will you see a more ravenous rapture than to mention the name of these Texas post-rockers around a true fan. The source of the fans’ ecstasy, besides the group’s history of reliable technical proficiency, is in the way Explosions’ songs ebb and flow, slow-burning to a triumphant climax only to do it all over again. It’s a roller coaster of youthful mood that tugs and toys with sense memory until every note is a new revelation. Or at least feels that way. Will some of you drive to Tampa to see them? You bet. Would those same people brave the narrow straits of Machu Picchu to see them? Maybe? – Justin Strout
