Saturday, June 16 – Roger Waters' The Wall

8 p.m.

Amway Center

400 W. Church St.

Pink Floyd singer Roger Waters’ 1979 double album The Wall is, by design, beyond context. It’s a rock opera, a pretty solid set of tracks (the lyric “We don’t need no education” is practically a cultural archetype embedded at birth), a movie musical and an elaborate live production witnessed time and again the world over. (The Waters tour has also served as a kind of perpetual legal fund, since the band members can’t seem to stop suing each other.) But to be fair, the money’s right there on the stage, from fluid, stadium-sized props to awkward children’s routines. It’s like Cirque du Soleil for Boomers now or formerly fond of psychedelics. Which, come to think of it, is kind of what Cirque is, too. Oh, and among Waters’ army of touring musicians: motherfuckin’ G.E. Smith, former musical director of the Saturday Night Live Band! – Justin Strout
