Blank Space Gallery & Lounge in downtown Orlando is closing. According to an announcement posted to Facebook by owner/operator David Charles, "unfortunate circumstances having to do with the building owner" mean the gallery can't keep its current space, and Charles says he can't afford to relocate. On Friday night, June 1, the gallery is hosting a closing party at its 201 E. Central Blvd. space. "join us one last time for great music, 1/2 price on all the beer that I have left (about 1000 beers ;-)..and help us paint the walls (so artists bring your paint brushes & paints) as we close out this chapter of [blank space] with a bang." In 2011, Blank Space Gallery & Lounge was named Best Alternative Arts Space in our Best of Orlando Readers Poll.
