Tuesday, May 22 – Yann Tiersen with Piano Chat 7:30 p.m. The Beacham 46 N. Orange Ave. 407-246-1419 thebeacham.com $20-$25

To bridge his classical education and his current sensibilities, acclaimed French composer Yann Tiersen crafts indie pop with the expanse and nuance of a symphonist. Like a more organic M83, he is making some of the most epic and finely sewn pop music today. With a penchant for widescreen sweeps and post-rock hues, he and his well-populated and well-armed band execute luxurious live performances that stroke already rich songs with a grandeur seldom seen in rock clubs. Tiersen rose to prominence from his film soundtrack work, but the music he makes strictly for his own sake – like his stunning new album Skyline – is actually more arresting on its own terms. And it’s finally getting its due. So, seriously, Orlando, don’t chant “Amélie” to get the band out for an encore like you did last time. Investigate one of his other albums already, dorks. You’re embarrassing us. – Bao Le-Huu
