Take an open mic night, swirl it around with some self-posted YouTube musical mimicry, and pour it over a generous helping of Rocky Horror-style audience participation and you have “shadow casting,” the all-new rage that’s only new to anyone who hasn’t already watched a friend transform from Frank the Accountant into draggy Dr. Frank-N-Furter on a drunken dare. Luckily, it’s a relatively new millennium and custom dictates that customs change, and so we have Keyboard Samurai, Orlando’s “official” shadow cast devoted to Repo! The Genetic Opera, the 2008 pariah-turned-cult film that employs music, horror and Paris Hilton for a diabolically entertaining 98 minutes of camp. Expect costumes, sharp instruments, singing, dancing and, if the pantomime is anything like the source material, gallons of fake blood. – Justin Strout
