Art cop”: That’s possibly the coolest job description ever. Robert K. Wittman is a former FBI special agent who specialized in recovering stolen works of art – often by going undercover, as in the case of the 1630 Rembrandt self-portrait that was liberated from the Swedish National Museum in Stockholm in 2000. (The details of that theft – the car bombs, blocked highways and speedboat escape – have been harvested and repurposed by countless heist flicks in the years since.) Wittman’s lecture will reveal how he got that Rembrandt back, among other art-of-the-steal anecdotes from his 2010 book, Priceless: How I Went Undercover to Rescue the World’s Stolen Treasures. Post-lecture home viewings of The Thomas Crown Affair, To Catch a Thief, Entrapment and Once a Thief are optional but recommended. – Jessica Bryce Young
