Friday, March 23 Glen Campbell

8 p.m.

King Center for Performing Arts

It doesn’t take the vessel of country music to make Glen Campbell’s farewell tour a locomotive of human drama, but there’s a poetic perfection in it. In light of his recent diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease, the country-pop legend released his final studio album, Ghost on the Canvas, last summer featuring his renditions of modern songs by Paul Westerberg, Robert Pollard, Jakob Dylan and Teddy Thompson while backed by a star cast of players including Chris Isaak, Dick Dale, Billy Corgan, Brian Setzer, Rick Nielsen, Roger Manning and members of the Dandy Warhols. To crown it all, this is the Rhinestone Cowboy’s official goodbye tour. Although not as starkly devastating as Johnny Cash’s grandly noirish exit, there’s still something both riveting and humbling about a man so openly facing the ultimate reckoning and seizing the last meaningful grains of sand in his artistic legacy. One of life’s great regrets is that we seldom celebrate someone’s life properly while they’re living. This is as proper of an opportunity as it gets. – Bao Le-Huu
