For Topographies, the exhibit of Barbara Sorensen’s sculpture that kicked off Orlando Museum of Art’s 2012 “Made in Florida” series, the museum has chosen to invigorate the work by inviting performing artists to respond to/collaborate with the static forms. In February, local writers Ken Murray and Margie Pabst responded literarily, reading poems created in response to the sculptures; this week, another response will be enacted by dancers from Orlando Ballet and Yow Dance. Two Orlando Ballet principals and a handful of Yow’s modern dancers will perform in OMA’s airy galleries, bringing new energy and exposing new facets of Sorensen’s ceramic and aluminum works by juxtaposing them with the living human form. This interdisciplinary dialogue between forms is a welcome step forward for OMA, and one we hope they’ll continue to consider in future programming. – Jessica Bryce Young
