6:30 p.m.

Cornell Fine Arts Museum

1000 Holt Ave., Winter Park

Until 1996, the modest white bungalow at 1418 1/2 Clouser St. was no different than its sleepy College Park neighbors, but that year, journalist Bob Kealing wrote an article for the Orlando Sentinel identifying it as the one-time residence of Jack Kerouac, figurehead of the Beat Generation writers. This discovery placed Orlando on the international literary map, and the house became a writers’ haven with the founding of the Kerouac Writer-in-Residence Project. Rollins College has recently acquired the original typescript of The Dharma Bums (complete with marginalia and editor’s notes); the yellowing bit of beatnik history will be on view this evening at the Cornell as part of the celebration for the updated edition of Kealing’s surprisingly poetic biography of Kerouac. – Jessica Bryce Young
