6 p.m.

Urban ReThink

625 E. Central Blvd.

Despite the series’ somewhat combative name, this edition of There Will Be Words is for lovers, not fighters. The advent of this prose reading series last year was a welcome development on the city’s literary scene; slam poets and

uh, non-slamming poets had well-established venues, but Orlando’s short-story writers, novelists and memoirists lacked the same outlet. The deep talent pool of local proseurs means, if you’re planning on attending as part of a Valentine’s night out, you needn’t fear an awkward moment of memoir-as-therapy – tonight’s readers (Anna Claire Hodge, Ashley Inguanta, Philip Smith and Jaquira Diaz) are pros at spinning lyrical gold out of the straw of the commonplace. The event is over at 8, and the neighborhood is crowded with bars and restaurants at which to discuss what you just heard: Bring a date, or meet one there. – Jessica Bryce Young
