Friday-Sunday, Feb. 10-1210th Annual Orlando Folk Festival

In some cities, they call it visionary art. In others, it’s outsider art. Here in Orlando, we call it folk or emerging art, but a rose by any other name and all that, right? If you’ve been to the Mennello, you probably have a good idea what we’re talking about: art made by people who aren’t classically trained artists. Orlando’s 10th annual celebration of such art takes place this weekend in the sculpture garden of the Mennello Museum. It’ll highlight the work of folk artists, including Morgan Steele, Dawn Schreiner and Mary Jo Snell, artisans who’ll demonstrate some all-but-forgotten crafts such as broom-making, chair-caning and bobbin lace making, and there’ll be bluegrass, country and folk music to boot. Attendees can bring picnic baskets and coolers (no alcohol will be sold on site, but you can BYOB), though we urge you to check out one additional art new to this year’s festival: the art of the food truck. Big Wheel Provisions and the Treehouse Truck will both be onsite to prove that food can be inspired, too. – Erin Sullivan
