True ballet dancers of the kind that populate big-city companies spend a lifetime training their bodies to be something other than – higher than – human. To see a ballerina just “hang out” or stretch or do whatever it is they do to their toes that keeps them from falling off is to marvel at an extraterrestrial stranded on foreign soil. It’s the kind of transcendent experience that can ruin normal interaction. So it’s with a big honkin’ warning that we send you to Orlando Ballet Uncorked at the downt’n Abbey (yes, we’re forever going to say it like it’s a BBC costume drama) for a “behind the scenes” look at the making of the company’s upcoming alien-erotic extravaganza, Battle of the Sexes, along with an audience Q&A. And with ticket prices for this event hovering at around the price of a heavy meal, there’s no reason not to see these specimens up close. Just don’t spook them, OK? – Justin Strout
