Selection Reminder: Ralphie May heads to town!

Jan. 6-8Ralphie May

It might not show, but comedian Ralphie May has really been through the ringer the past couple of years: His troubles started in 2010 with a marijuana mix-up in a Guam airport then continued when he endured a near-death bout with pneumonia later that year that landed him in a Tampa hospital. He may have been down, but May’s certainly not out, and with loud-and-clear confidence, the self-proclaimed “400 pounds of sexiness” kicks off a yearlong tour this weekend with a three-day stand-up bit at Orlando Improv. May’s managed to tie in his personal calamities as self-referential humor for his latest show. Expect the over-the-top facial expressions, touches on racism, fat jokes and drugs. In May’s case, apparently, laughter really is the cure-all. – Aimee Vitek (various showtimes through Sunday at Improv Comedy Club & Dinner Theatre, 9101 International Drive, Ste. 2310; 407-480-5233;; $25 ticket only, not including dinner)
