Selection Reminder: Chanukah in the Park!

Sunday, Dec. 25 Chanukah in the Park

Not only does this holiday week see illusions of a hefty, white-bearded man in a red jumpsuit hoisting presents down a chimney, but our Jewish friends also celebrate the annual gift extravaganza known as Hanukkah. Today the folks at the Chabad of Greater Orlando host one of the only community Hanukkah festivities we’ve found in the area. This year’s outdoor family festival lands smack-dab in the middle of the eight-day holiday, bringing, of course, the traditional dreidel spinning, Chasidic dancing, klezmer music and chocolate Hanukkah gelt coins to Central Park. The evening’s entertainment lineup also includes singing bits by kids from the Jewish Community Center, juggling acts, face-painting and, at sundown, the dramatic candle lighting of the Grand Menorah. And so you’re not disappointed: Despite the fact that Hanukkah’s menu is typically centered around yummy fried foods, this fest’s food options, according to the website, include “hot dogs, chips and drinks.” – Aimee Vitek (5 p.m. at Central Park, North Park Avenue and West Morse Boulevard, Winter Park, 407-644-2500,, free)
