Selection Reminder: Aegeansfest film fundraiser tonight at Urban ReThink!

Thursday, Dec. 15Aegeansfest

Last week, we told you about a couple of web series (Husbands, for example) that are more than worth your time, because believe it or not, the fledgling new outlet, post-Dr. Horrible, is all grown up and almost totally self-sufficiently valid. So we’re ever-so-slightly less eye-rolling when local filmmakers take to to beg for a little dough to do their own; even less so when the person asking is writer-director and D.W. Griffith obsessive William Jarrod Holloway and the subject has to do with a 17th-century Puritan community and supernatural goings-on. Back in September, Holloway and his producers successfully raised production money for the planned series, titled The Aegeans, but now they need finishing costs. To that end, tonight’s fundraiser goes to the production, and Holloway is sweetening the pot by screening original 16mm avant-garde shorts not currently available in any format, followed by what Holloway calls “the greatest drive-in classic of them all,” 1974’s Macon County Line. As if that weren’t sufficiently badass, local composer Chris Belt will provide live music. – Justin Strout (7 p.m. at Urban ReThink, 625 E. Central Blvd.; 407-704-6895;; $5 recommended donation)
