Wednesday, Dec. 14Moon Duo

One of the more intriguing touring bands to come through in a while, this San Francisco-born guitar-and-keyboards duo is the union of Sanae Yamada and Wooden Shjips principal Ripley Johnson. On paper, their blend of psychedelia, drone and krautrock looks a lot like Johnson’s other band. And although the bloodline is evident – good news for Wooden Shjips fans – Moon Duo’s sound is less thick with groove, more electronically framed and, as their name implies, much more cosmic. However, their modern riff on ’60s and ’70s styles is still an absorbingly gravitational carousel swimming in guitar fuzz, organs and swirling effects. This year, they’ve added just enough pop smarts on their latest album, Mazes, to be more immediate and widely engaging. But thankfully, not enough to blunt their Rasputin eyes. – Bao Le-Huu (with Surfin Serf, Permanent Nap; 9 p.m. at Will’s Pub, 1042 N. Mills Ave.; $5; 407-898-5070;
