Selection Reminder: Sparkle Holiday Market today!

Sunday, Dec. 11Sparkle

Around the holidays, everything tends to go glam: glistening ornaments on the tree, synchronized light displays around the neighborhood, glitzy gift-wrapped presents. You’ll even find the craftiest gift-givers who can magically turn junk into gems – a raggedy pair of jeans becomes a rhinestone-clad purse, an heirloom brooch creates the perfect embellishment for a vintage belt. On cue, Orlando’s put-it-together style continues to flourish, with help from websites like Etsy (OW added a brand new Best of Orlando category this year for Best Local Etsy-er) and increasing homegrown support at events like today’s Sparkle Holiday Market. Peruse the showcase of items for sale – painted coffee mugs, soap-loofah creations, iron-on patches and sewing pincushions, from what we’ve seen on Facebook – and rest assured that most were either created by bits and pieces of something else or were previously owned and fabulously turned anew. Recycled, reused, resplendent. – Aimee Vitek (11 a.m.-6 p.m. at Dandelion Communitea Café, 618 N. Thornton Ave.; free; 407-362-1864;
